And I believe, the truth will eventually be known as to the real cost of  2010, but we have a ways to go yet.

Somebody explain this selective bit of downplay I’m about to speak of.

Gregor Robertson has been doing nothing BUT dealing with all the media and public backlash from Olympic Village fiasco. It has become news all over the world – and perhaps so it should be, because it directly reflects on the choices and decisions of those in charge. Why would anyone put the city at risk? Why the secrecy?

And why did this story get so much attention when others seem to merit nothing more than a small blip on the radar?

Why did this story get so much ” Olympic ” attention, when the recent announcement that the City of Surrey could not meet its first construction deadline for the Olympic volunteer project received so little?  The city had pretty much said that they have come up with alternative plans to rent out existing community centres if they cant make the new deadline- and its doubtful they will.  So perhaps the residents will have to forgo programs so that volunteers can be trained. Sad, because I thought this commitment was about making things better for residents in the end.

AND , considering the mayor also signed away the cities right to defend itself should anything go wrong – without revealing this detail to all of the counsellors before they passed the motion –  why aren’t our residents calling foul and asking for more answers?

Surrey mayor Dianne Watts was  criticized harshly last year after signing the contract, when it was revealed that not all the details were shared or made clear to all councillors before the deal was done. At the heart of the issue was a clause that forfeits the city’s legal rights should a disagreement  occur between the parties. Why hasn’t CTV been out here asking Dianne Watts about this?  The city has missed its first deadline. This isn’t a minor setback when they are talking about how to handle it when the second deadline is missed!  Dianne Watts was quoted several times about how it would be done on time, no questions asked. And yet , here we are, with completion dates looming again with nary enough done to house a mouse.

And yet, this story has only received small attention with the big press, and minimal in our local rags.I can’t help but think how many more RCMP officers all this money could have paid for- sorely needed if you ask me. And don’t even get me started on the hospital needing ‘ donations’ to get things handled.

Now Richmond has scaled back all its plans AND the legacy opportunities, citing ” transportation” issues for some of the problem, although that doesn’t really explain why the legacy portion was cut back. Brodie is putting on a brave face, saying how great it will be for all the people who cant afford tickets to celebrate the feelings — only now it wont be this grand festival along the river, its going to take place in Minoru park area by city hall….. http://www.globaltv.com/globaltv/bc/story.html?id=1228510  Even this story received more press than the Surrey one.

    1. You and I, and a host of others, Sal. It disgusts me to think of why those kids had to settle. Makes me wish the lawyer had come forward earlier to let this all be known, that they couldn’t afford to go to court. The sad truth is that justice can be bought, sold and denied with access to a large bank account.

      As for the people allegedly in charge of running that ship that night? Must be hard to live with yourself, keeping all those secrets inside. They must be gnawing at them night and day. The only right thing to do is to step up, speak out, and let the truth be known. No goog waiting til your death bed to absolve yourself of this crap – it will do no good then. Speak your peace so everyone can move on.
