Three very important questions for our families first premier… if she isn’t too busy Christmas shopping, that is…

* There is a follow-up post… Here. *

From our good friend RossK, who has a good lead, from a very good source… about a helluva shocking story :

“In the wake of all the money that has been completely and disgustingly wasted on Snooklandian propaganda and ad-buys in the last year ($64 million and counting!) we have two simple questions for Premier Christy Clark and her Minister of Children and Family Development Stephanie Cadieux:

Question #1:

Why, in the name of budget cutting, have social workers in the MCFD been told they are not allowed to purchase Christmas gifts for the children and youth in government care?

Question #2:

Is it true that social workers who have already bought gifts for children and youth in government care are being told to return those gifts?

Of course, we have a third question for Ms. Clark and Ms. Cadieux if the answer to either of the questions above is ‘yes’.

Which is…

How, exactly, do either of you sleep at night ? “

  1. First Collector: At this festive time of year, Mr. Scrooge, it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute.
    Ebenezer: Are there no prisons?
    First Collector: Plenty of prisons.
Ebenezer: And the union workhouses – are they still in operation?
First Collector: They are. I wish I could say they were not.
Ebenezer: Oh, from what you said at first I was afraid that something had happened to stop them in their useful course. I’m very glad to hear it.
First Collector: I don’t think you quite understand us, sir. A few of us are endeavoring to buy the poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth.
    Ebenezer: Why?
First Collector: Because it is at Christmastime that want is most keenly felt, and abundance rejoices. Now what can I put you down for?
    Ebenezer: Huh! Nothing!
Second Collector: You wish to be anonymous?
Ebenezer: [firmly, but calmly] I wish to be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish sir, that is my answer. I help to support the establishments I have named; those who are badly off must go there.
First Collector: Many can’t go there.
Second Collector: And some would rather die.
This is the motto they live by as from the 1951 movie Scrooge and a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

  2. We must remember? For years, Gordon Campbell refused to raise the minimum wage of $8.00 per hour. He had the highest number of children living in poverty. Campbell had the highest number of children, who went to school hungry. Campbell and Harper forced the HST on BC people who, lost their jobs, homes, vehicles, and every thing they had. Campbell gave himself a, $60,000 per year salary hike. This has been the, Campbell/Clark BC Liberals mantra, for as long as they have been in office. They have also betrayed the people of BC. They work for Harper, instead of their own province and citizens.

I am not surprised at anything by, Harper and his Campbell/Clark BC Liberals. They are in the lowest form of the human species. Even our wild creatures, protect their young to the death. Just don’t expect any of the BC Liberals and Harper to look after our children living in poverty. They put themselves first. Boessenkool even said. The smartest thing Harper ever did was to, cancel the National Child Care Program.

I sincerely hope, someone is giving these kids a x-mas? Had we have known? We would have sent x-mas presents for those kids. Shame, shame on Christy and the BC Liberals.

  3. I live in Ms. Cadieux riding and I was very disturbed by this news so I called her constituency office. They called Victoria to ask if this is in fact true and then called me back to let me know that the ministry is allowing the purchase of gifts.

      1. There may well have been a change in policy as a result of the publicity. I was just very glad to hear that gift purchases were allowed.
On a side note I was asked about the source of my information. I’m afraid I gave up your name, Laila!!😉

        1. That’s completely fine Michael! And let’s hope there was a sudden policy change…I am trying to get a clear answer from the gov right now before I… well, share something.. ; )

        2. Many thanks for my teeny part in this, but the real heros are the men and women on the front lines of this ministry, who have inadequate budgets for dealing with children and teens in need. I am simply the messenger, as is RossK, but we have asked the minstry how readers can forward gifts to these kids and teens if they want to do so…. an action I totally support…. As of 1 pm, no reply on that.

        3. Well, we have a response from the ministry:

Yes, they did send a “clarification” of the gift policy to all MCFD workers as per the Gazetteers update

And No, they dont want gifts.

“We appreciate the kind offer however, as the Director of Child Welfare pointed out in his email to staff the vast majority of children in care are placed with foster care families and part of the maintenance payment they receive from the ministry is to cover presents.

For those children and youth who are living under arrangements other than foster care the social workers are able to purchase a gift up to a maximum yearly amount of $100 per child or youth.

And in fact are encouraged to do so. Again, there has been no provincial direction to change this practice.

As you know, there are numerous community service agencies that would accept a donation of a gift for a child who may be in need of one during the holiday.”

So, if you wish to give a gift, find an agency that gives to kids in care….. I personally, have not been able to find one that specifies this area of need.

  4. Laila, you and I know the BC gov’t is constantly monitoring our sites and there are plenty of visits today from their offices in Victoria. It’s one of my busiest days ever.

if we bloggers collectively shamed them into a sudden policy reversal, then it reflects the power of our loyal readers.

    1. Indeed,in fact occasionally I feel guilty for the government spending so much time doing nothing but monitoring what we write. It is taxpayers dollars after all.But I do hope they were shamed into changing this. This is not something they could ever admit to, in particular with an email.

  5. I want this government to be very clear about it’s position and answer to these questions RossK poses, because I will make one thing very clear.

    Someone is telling a lie.

    And it isn’t the source( s )

    That’s right. Multiple sources.

    RossK had the original source.

Another has come forward to me.

So lets see who is telling the truth as per the twitterworld response from the BC Government that this story is absolutely not true.

    1. Heard from another source today near Whistler, B.C. that this memo was received by MCFD staff as well. Sudden reversal of policy because you Angels exposed the freaks! Thank you and shame on the Premier!!!

  6. All of you wonderful bloggers deserve, the highest of recognition. I was absolutely sick about those children, being ignored for x-mas, by the BC Liberals. We would not have known about the plight of those children, without your input on the net.

May all of you bloggers, have a nice x-mas with your family’s.

  7. Guaranteed that the sources are not telling the lies – who else but our coniving and imaginitive BC Liberal government.
They probably think they can BS their way through this little faux pas – the more they lie, the more people will likely to believe them – NOT.
Sorry about the cynicism, but this time of year there should be something positive happening for the less fortunate, by the BC Liberal government.
Just maybe we could shame them all into feeling really guilty about what they are about ?
    Thanks

  8. Due to the Big Corporations owning MSM, and now our Phantom Government in Victoria, it is imperative that Blogs like this and the others mentioned exist and people read them, respond, paste them and e-mail your representative in Victoria, and other make-belive venues, such as a self-named psuedo news journalists like Bill Good, Tom Fletcher, or Vaughn Palmer, and let them know. Let them know we don’t buy it. We don’t buy their Puff reporting.

Let them know that we, the public, are demanding change, we are demanding accountability, we are demanding resuts, we are demanding new’s or current event reporting as it stands, that we are not going to accept our Resources to be sold off to Multi-Nationals, and Foreign Nationals. That we are not going to stand around and watch the children in poverty continued to be ignored by the self-claimed elected experts that ignore the issue. That we are not going to accept the Ponzi Scheme worked over at B.C. Ferries, the Fluff and Puff Policy’s that they float in front of us. That we don’t want our resources and jobs shipped off to China and South Asia, or the Pacific Islanders, that we want these industry’s developed and to remain in British Columbia, and Canada. We don’t want our Province and Country to end up like France, Britain and others where the youth riot in the streets against the Government, Institutions, and Corperations, because there are no jobs, there is no future, and they are tired of the lies.

This Province should have the lowest Consumer Fuel Costs and Energy Costs in the Free World, and what have we got? A Sell-off and a Sell-out by people that we elected, rising costs, scams, less and less quality work, and a dizzy Premier that should be in a Walt Disney Fantasy Movie. The dis-information the MSM outlets contrive is like verbal diahheria pouring out of a bottomless pit. Let them know that they’ve reached the bottom and there is only one way to go and that is Up. Or Out! (rant is over)

  9. As to the question of, how do clark & Cad. sleep at night? they sleep just fine. They don’t care about any of the children in this province. If they did they would not have spent all the money on ads. They rationalize it this way. it is o.k. to not spend money on christmas presents for these children because the government needs the money for ads because how else will the public know what a good job the lieberals are doing. The lieberals need to tell the public how well they are doing so they can get re elected because only the lieberals can run this province RIGHT INTO THE GROUND.

Thank you to the bloggers & their sources for bringing this information to light. I watched the news tonight & there wasn’t a dam about this. We had Ms. Hope doing her insight thing but nothing about kids who are “wards of the government”. I do believe it is high time someone arrested Cad. & Clark for child neglect & child abuse.

    1. I think to place the blame just on Clark and Cadieux is foolhardy – keep in mind this government has not made at risk kids at priority for a very very long time.

While we look into more, take a look at this year end interview with Clark and Gloria Macarenko, who does an admirable job taking Clark to task on the jobs plan, foreign workers, the moodys downgrade and northern gateway. A good interview. Gloria kind of scares me with the look in her eye! Well done. http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/Canada/BC/ID/2318278348/

  10. Gloria Macarenko is from Prince Rupert so she may be more aware of or concerned about the potential devastation a Supertanker or pipeline spill could cause near her hometown then most talking heads in the MSM? I no longer live up there but the family home I am going to inherit is less then a mile from the pipeline if they take the old gas line route west around the North Shore of Fraser Lake, I am totally opposed to this pipeline.

clark and cadieux are just more proof of how nasty this party has become, these people do not have a clue about compassion or empathy, they try to steal Christmas gifts from poor children without conscious then try to lie their way out of it they put people on the street, give themselves raises and when their nasty little party is kicked out many will probably be given a nice board position with the Foreign (?) Corporation they helped most at our expense!

Like finance minister carole taylor when she retired shortly after giving banks a half billion dollar annual tax break, she then gets a position with the TD bank as a director making up to 330,000 a year while the schools that money could have funded are falling apart and this while we have one of the highest child poverty rates in Canada and Banks are making huge if not record breaking profits.

It really is sickening and so called reporters like tom fletcher vaughn palmer and les leyne whose son works for the liberal party are trying to get this bunch re-elected!
