Breaking news: BNSF and Semiahmoo First Nations reach confidential settlement agreement.

In a conversation by phone this afternoon, Gus Melonas, Director of Public Affairs for Canada, had this to say:

“As a result of a hearing today in Supreme Court over a property dispute, BNSF reached a confidential settlement with Semiahmoo First Nations that was approved by the judge. We are very pleased to have been able to resolve this issue without extensive litigation and to move forward.”

Calls to Semiahmoo First Nations band office have not been returned this afternoon.

While Melonas could not comment on a timeline for the replacement of the bridge, BNSF has completed the promised urgent repairs and continues to inspect the bridge frequently.
