Happy B.C. Day ! “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.”~Edward Abbey

From the banks of humble Mud Bay in Surrey, to the mountain peaks and valleys across this great province, there are incredible views to be found and appreciated…if only you take the time.

Today, and this weekend, get out of the city if you can- find some nature around you if you can’t- and enjoy some downtime away from all the wing-nuttery that’s out there.

If you find yourself at the end of a long trail with an amazing view, share your pics with us when you get back, on twitter @lailayuile, hashtag #BCDAY , or email them to me at lailayuile@live.com and I will add them to the post for readers to enjoy! These are some of mine, from adventures past and present.

Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.”

  1. Wait a minute! Mud Bay’s in Mud Bay—I can see it across the sound. When else but on BC Day would you discover there’s another bay whose name is Mud?
I remember some of my eastern relatives finding the neighbouring bay’s name, Fanny, a trifle rude…

    Happy BC Day.

    1. HAha !! I didn’t know there was another Mud Bay either!!! Is it as aptly named as ours? Here the bay empties completely at low tide, leaving vast areas of mud that looks quite harmless, but has at times, completely entrenched people who then must be rescued by helicopter or hovercraft!

Fanny Bay…. wouldn’t blink an eye at that one..lol 🙂 I hope your weekend is great!

      1. I don’t know if you might recall one of those “beehive burners” perhaps on an up-island trip—been gone for about 25 years by now, but it was in Mud Bay, at the shake and shingle mill there. There’s still a little E&N rail siding there, replete with a sign, “Mud Bay”.
And yes, it’s muddy. Probably lots of bays named after their chart label, “mud” or “rock” or “sandy”. Most oxymoronic I’ve seen is Head Bay—a headland, as in, say, Gordon Head”— is the exact opposite of a bay. But there you go.

      2. …Oh, yes, weekend’s been very nice, thank you very much. Just played a couple of mouldy oldies with a couple friends for a do down at the Seniors Hall here, including a crowd favourite (apparently): Blueberry Hill.
